Get High Rankingings For Money Keywords
Do you know what the MOST targeted and highest converting keywords and keyphrases are?
Do you know that there’s actually less competition for these KWs, SEO-wise?
What am I talking about here? Long-tail keywords of course…
A very loose definition of Long-tail KWs is search terms and phrases that are longer, generally have less search volume, but known to convert at higher rates than their more generic counterparts.
When I started on my quest to learn SEO, I had it in my head that I could gain a lot of traffic from long-tail keywords.
Here’s why you should go after long-tail keywords in your blog posts, website pages, and main site on-page optimization
Easy testing for realistic SEO competition and leads to less traffic but traffic that converts better…
A lot of people I know of, including the SEO gurus, tell you to use Firefox and all these other widgets to see what your SEO competition is like before you do anything.
F*** That! Just Do It…
Just go ahead and see for yourself what the competition is really like instead of researching the thing to death.
Here’s how you do it…
- Write a blog post that is long-tail in nature
- Get backlinks for the long-tail phrase/keywords
- Check to see how your site/post/page is ranking for the long-tail keywords
If competition is really fierce for whatever reason, then here’s your first indication of that…
If you’re not ranking well for a long-tail phrase quickly and with only a few backlinks, then you know right there what it going to take to rank well for the higher search-volume terms (the NON-long-tail terms)
When I first had this idea in my head, I had spent hours of researching the SEO competition in my niche and trying to figure out what keywords I wanted to rank well for…for a certain site.
The Kw and SEO research showed varied results, and indications were all over the map (easy, hard, not worth it etc…)
So here’s what I did..
I wrote 3 articles optimized for the long-tail traffic, and for some reason only 1 has remained on page 1 since its publication, the others are nowhere to be found for those same terms.
The article optimized for the long tail also backlinked to “mothership” site using longtail anchor text…
So now I had an article on page 1 for long tail term slinking back to my site using same terms…
MAIN SITE is doing horrible in the rankings, even after using LinkVana for a while.
So, I decided that the long-tail term wasn’t overly difficult (since EZA made it to #2 position in a day), and that the “mothership” site needed some more “SEO lovin” and backlinks…
So finally, my point…
I went after the term “learn how to start an internet business” and got mothership site and EZA article both on page 1, above the fold finally.
Then I went after the term “how to start an internet business” (Page 2 and rising fast, (at this time)
Then I went after “start an internet business” – Page 1 now (At This Time).
THIS is how you get your targeted traffic first, and make effective progress with your site building and conversions…
Pick off the low-hanging fruit first, (ie. the long-tail) then once you rank well for those terms, strengthen your site with more backlinks and get more traffic by climbing up the tree to get the higher-hanging fruit (the more generic, higher volume terms
